Introducing Miryang Eoreumgol Dongui Festival
It has been several thousand years since the progenitor found our country. The Korean medicine has been a sheet of anchor while there was numerous crisis and struggles and while our forefathers and grandmothers suffered from sickness, thus it is now one of the greatest culture heritage that Korea could proudly promote in the world.
While there were many noted doctors and medical books in this country, Dongui bogam; "The Precious Mirror of Oriental Medicine" a comprehensive medical work written by Heo Jun created during the Joseon period is the best definite edition of oriental medicine.
Total 25 volumes and 25 books were completed in 1610, published in a government office and in 1613 (5th year of King Gwanghae's reign) it was published as Gaeju Gabinja(Kabin type; made in Chinese Character by melting an reconstructing) of military training office of the palace pharmacy, containing all the important Clinical Pathology of later time along with each division such as Pharmacology, acupuncture and Physiological Pathology.
It is important that it represents as an encyclopedia of medical practice but the real value of this book is that this book not only emphasizes physical pain citing the details of internal medicine which is the best of the Sasang Typology and oriental medicine but it also focused on spiritual health trying to establish the perfect state of human culture of the inside and outside.
It has been 400 years since he past away, remaining this great results to future posterity and we would like to repay for his kindness by paying respect.
The Jaeyaksan in Eoreumgol is known to save the life of third royal prince of King Heungdeok during Silla dynasty, and the legends says, it is the place that Heo Jun and his teacher Yu Eui-tae's 'sacrificing to preserve their integrity spirit', thus it is a perfect place to demonstrate the respect.
Hence, we are holding the 9th Dongui religious service to celebrate the birth of Dongui bogam to ruminated the spirit.
